S-System is a proprietary technology developed by Audiofilia snc, consequent to 20 years long research, starting from traditional physical-acoustic studies through lutherie studies and studies on the density of materials and their resonance. It is a new, innovative and exclusive physical-pneumatic technology applied to the construction technique of AF-Speakers.

The S-System technology is expensive to build and its correct realization implies deep physical-acoustical knowledge, lutherie knowledge, behavioural knowledge of materials resonance and depth studies on molecular density of the same. Only few speaker designers understands the importance of such knowledge, while most of them, turn their research and attention in the obtainment of characteristics of their projects that goes in the opposite direction of S-System technology.

Usually we do not recommend this kind of feet. We provide our speakers with feet designed to agree the peculiarities of the project philosophy that characterizes Audiofilia speakers. The speaker, intended as a unit, must be free to vibrate exactly as any musical instrument when it's solicited. Feet supplied and normally mounted in our speakers are self-leveling and self-adapting to any surface. A slight wobble of the speaker once in the listening position, is natural and wanted in the design phase. We recommend to not interpose between the speaker and the floor, bases of marble, glass, wood etc...In so far, this affect and/or alter the speaker frequency response on the low frequencies region.

We provide drivers grilles protection on our speakers only on customer's request, but we don't recommend their adoption. Do not forget that our speakers are based on a vibrational system in which each component of this system contributes to the emission of sound. Any typology of grill of any form or workmanship placed in front to the drivers (of any speaker) tends to oscillate negatively, in antiphase respect to all drivers of the speaker generating a totally negative and counterproductive vibrational effect, seriously nullifying the characteristics of acoustic dispersion and frequency response of the speaker, by acting negatively in the realism of the sound and the acoustic scene.

Almost totality of speakers designers based their projects on the "infinite baffle" theory. Principle, however, physically discouraged. This principle with all physics-acoustics associated with it provides a theoretically total dissipation of the mechanical-acoustic drivers energies dissipating them in the most small portion of the cabinet front panel which must be designed with amorphous criteria and theoretically with total insensitivity to the vibrational features. With preconditions of the "infinite baffle" theory, it would create a conceptual and projectual great conflict with our speakers, where each component must be free to release energy, without mechanical or other physical impediments, contributing with its physical vibration to the sound emission. Then, you will understand the high relevance of the "S-System" technology implemented in all our speakers with "not to flush" mounted drivers. The insufflation (vortices and air cones) created by drivers is free to spread on front and side of the speaker in calculated measure in the design phase. Avoiding pernicious shadow areas of energy that would adversely affect on the totality of the speaker result sound, preventing and reducing the emission of precious sound informations existing in the primitive sound message. Summing up and told it in few words, the drivers mounted externally to the front panel of the cabinet, in conjunction with "S-System" technology make the AF speakers sound emission much more realistic, real and musical, together to a very wide dispersive sound angle, characteristics don't detectable, even physically, in the "infinite baffle" theory.

The Audiofilia speakers have a very wide dispersive sound angle. Despite that, we recommend placing them in the listening room, angled towards the listening position, so that, the width between a speaker and the other is the same as that between the speakers and the listener. Forming between the speakers and the listener a virtual equilateral triangle, where the listener is inside this triangle. Also, to recreate a credible soundstage, we recommend to interpose a distance between the two speakers at least of a couple of meters and far as possible from the back and side walls of your listening room.

All our speakers once finished, are tested and listened to separately. They are also subjected to a final test that allows the partial lightening of the membranes of drivers. Nevertheless, we suggest to burn in our speakers for at least one hundred hours. After this period the speaker softens considerably the region of the mid and mid-high frequencies while maintaining the characteristic of "open" sound. We noticed that our speakers, over time, greatly improve their sound and this is due in part to the break-in of the drivers, by the peculiarity of the S-System technology, used woods and ultimately to the original typology of construction of our speakers. Do not forget that our speakers behave just like a musical wooden instrument, playing and with passing of time, the emission becomes gradually more and more natural, fluid and musical.

In reality the differences between the two connections are not abysmal. But we prefer and recommend to connect our speakers in bi-wiring configuration. You will experience an even more articulate and detailed sound, wider soundstage and a greater separation of the various elements that compose the sound message. Ultimately, a small step towards the sonic realism. If finances permit, we greatly suggest, a bi-amping connection which adds further and in a decisive way, all those nuances already mentioned above.

We always recommend using high quality cables for connections between the amplifier and AF speakers. The use of "esoteric" cables and/or particularly expensive, does not bring significant improvements to the sound to justify the cost. However, if for any reason you want to deal this spending, We recommend to make a try in your listening room before buy it.

All AF speakers have a very high sensitivity and are easy to be driven by any amplifier. However, given their musical sensitivity, AF speakers are extremely revealing of everything that precedes them. For this reason we recommend high quality sources and amplifiers, both tubes that solid state. We love tube amps for their fluidity and innate musicality. We test our speakers with tube amplifiers of our production, but regardless of that, a good solid-state amplification with a good energy supply is likewise recommended.

Of course for the choice of the "right" speaker is essential listen to it. Classic guidelines claim that small speakers sound better in small listening rooms and large speakers in larger rooms. In addition are contemplated, among other things, these basic requests:
• Dimensions of the listening room
• Listening at high or low volume
• The favorite musical genre
We do not feel to share these requests; both you listen in large or small domestic environments, the S-System technology applied in all AF speakers, is indifferent to the played musical genre, and indifferent to the listening volume. Regarding the size of the listening room even this is irrelevant. Refer to the faq " What is the best AF speakers placement in the listening room?" of this page. While choosing the pneumatic system instead of the reflex system is attinente to personal taste. But even here, the S-System technology minimizes the difference of these two classical systems.

Place a bookshelf speaker on any stand, is not the happiest thing you can do in that time. All stands are able to modify the sound emission of any speaker more or less significantly, often transforming, the positive speaker peculiarities to negative. The construction type, material, the shape and resonant capacity are parameters that should never be underestimated during the choice of the stands. For these reasons, it is profoundly wrong to conceive them how simple bases for your bookshelf speakers. The AF stands are wood made and considered as an integral part of the speaker. Each construction detail is thought in favor the S-SYSTEM technology implemented in every our bookshelf speakers, preserving and exalting its natural and innate sonic ability. Their presence, compared to any other stand is markedly audible.

Is possible to customize AF speakers when ordering the chosen model. The customization is relative to the speaker's model. Please refer to the specifications tab of the product in this website, under the voice "Customization" to see which parts of the speaker may be choosed according to personal aesthetic and sonic taste.

There aren't objective sonic differences between wood finish and lacquer finish on AF speakers. The only differences are purely theoretical and finding no basis in reality. Theoretically the wood finish would be preferable because "lightest" and permeable, allowing to the woods cabinet to "breathe". The technique used for this type of finish is called "open pore". The lacquer finish used by Audiofilia in their cabinets is anyway "light" and applied "in two hands" preserving the cabinet's precious vibratory characteristic without stiffen it. Therefore we recommend to safely choose the finish that more like you and more integrate AF speakers in your home.

In all our speakers we mount high-performance drivers manufactured by Morel (Subwoofers, Woofers, Midranges e Tweeters), Fountek (Ribbon tweeters) and Seas (Woofers).

Given the particular typology of operation of the S-System technology, we find misleading and useless to publish graphs and electroacoustic measures of our speakers. The operating range of the S-System technology is more aligned to the field of psycho-acoustics and it is particularly difficult to measure graphically the field of influence with classical measurements related to the traditional electro-acoustic field. From the point of electroacoustic view, a graph of any model of our speaker, would be comparable to that of an excellent speaker in the same category. With the implementation of the S-System technology any classical measurement would be incorrect and little inherent and not very indicative of the total, real emissive capability distinguishable and perceivable by the user in the listening process. To have a real measurement of a speaker that implements S-System technology we would need dedicated computers and microphones that elaborate and perceive sounds in the same way of the human brain. Said in two words, It would be how to measure the depth, the amplitude, the response curve and every other value of a human emotion.

The ½ way you read in the specifications of all our speakers is added by the S-System technology. This innovative technology intervenes in the low frequency range, breaking them down into two distinct fields: the first range starts from 180Hz ends at 63Hz. The second range starts from 63Hz down to subsonic frequencies below 20Hz. The latter frequency range adds the ½ way to the speaker. This half way, added by the S-System is responsible for the low and telluric frequencies perceived in the listening phase.

Not physically ! Yet the technical specifications related to the frequency response of each speaker of our models are reals and is the real perceived frequency response in the listening phase. Let me explain better ... As already described, the real, electroacoustic, frequency response of our speakers at +/- 3db it's comparable to the frequency response of an excellent speaker of the same category. The difference is given by the S-System technology that naturally "tricks", so to speak, the way to process the sounds by our brain, making the listener really hear frequencies below 20Hz at +/- 3db. It can be said how the intervention of the S-System technology implies the involvement of naturals psycho-acoustic faculties of the listener and the perception and processing of the sounds of our brain. Don't think that all this is something of unnatural or artificial, on the contrary, all this is extremely natural ! The same thing always naturally happens when we listen to a live concert or any recording in our listening room or even a person speak. But how it is possible to emit so low frequencies from the speaker ? As described in the previous FAQ, the S-System technology is responsible for the emission of low and ultra-low frequencies. To better understand the reason of the presence of such frequencies perceived in our speakers at +/- 3db, consideration be given to a speaker intended as unit: if this model is for example a 3-way speaker, S-System technology adds a ½ way that is responsible for the emission of ultra-low frequencies. Take now, for example, a pair of speakers where each speaker has a ½ physics way naturally added: ½ way + ½ way = 1 way ...The equivalent of a relative subwoofer virtually present in the listening room.

Yes of course...We build any type of speakers based on requests of the customer and according to their end use. Sound features of these speakers will be the same of our regular production.

The customization of our speakers not involve any additional cost compared to the speakers supplied as standard, both in the choice of the system (bass-reflex or air suspension) and / or the tweeter (dome or ribbon). Even the choice of the cabinet finish (wood's essence as indicated or lacquered) does not involve any additional costs for the customer.

When ordering any electronics, it is possible to request replacement of the standard valves with those indicated under "Customization" relative to the electronics chosen (for example the replacement of EL34 supplied as standard with the KT88), at no extra cost. The electronics will be delivered according to the personal choice of the customer.

We guarantee our speakers for a period of 5 years and our electronics for a period of 2 years from the purchase date.

All our products are handmade, using first order materials and components and realized for provide many years of service without any problem. But in the unlikely event of repair request, will be replaced the damaged parts of the product, ensuring to match the performance of the original damaged part and the totality performance of the original product. In case the product is still under AF warranty, the user will have to pay only the shipping cost of the item to repair.
